We are very excited to welcome Mike Howard as the newest tour guide for Gatlinburg Comedy Tours! Mike is coming to us with years of radio, TV, live performance, and tour guide experience (including ghost tours). Check out our Q&A with Mike and find out why you should hang out with him on your next Gatlinburg walking tour

1. Why are you excited to join Gatlinburg Comedy Tours as a tour guide?

It combines my 3 favorite things: Gatlinburg, live comedy, and wandering around aimlessly outside on crowded sidewalks…with the possibility of occasional free taffy samples and moonshine sampler shots! Life doesn’t get any better!

2. What do you enjoy about being a tour guide?

Having been married and a father for as long as I’ve been; I just enjoy having people actually listen to me! And…as I said before, taffy samples!

3. What are some of your favorite things to do in Gatlinburg?

I love the Great Smoky Mountains National park (camping, hiking, etc) but I have a soft spot for kitschy fun: wax museums, haunted houses, arcades, putt-putt, gift shops and every form of fried dough known to man! Having a bad day? Eat a giant corn dog! It won’t fix your problems and you’ll be greasy and gassy, but you’ll have a smile on your face for a bit!

4. Why should people use Gatlinburg Comedy Tours versus another Gatlinburg walking tour?

We all spend too much time on edge today; too stressed to function at times. We all need to take some time to slow down, have a laugh, and just enjoy what’s around us – at that moment. That’s what GCT gives their guests a chance to do: experience an incredibly fun, beautiful town and have a few laughs along the way. Whether you’ve been here before or taken the tour before; we will find something new for you, show you something you’ve never seen before or make up something so outrageous, it’ll seem new!

5. How are you going to use your radio and TV experience as a tour guide?

Well, my decades as an actor and radio announcer will cause people to listen very carefully because they kind of recognize my voice (not really, it’s just that all FM radio announcers sound basically the same) and they’ll watch me very carefully because they’ll read that I’m a tv and film actor, but it won’t be until the tour’s finished that they’ll realize they have no clue who I am…maybe. (They will go back home though and tell their friends that they took a tour with a guy who did a movie with The Rock!)

6. What is your most memorable moment as a tour guide?

My last job as a tour guide was leading a ghost tour and a special paranormal investigation tour. I am an actual paranormal investigator. I’m the Case Manager for the East TN Ghost Seekers, so I have to say that I’ve had many interesting moments on tours, such as disembodied voices, unexplained noises, strange video evidence, being pushed, having my hair pulled – and that was just dealing with the late-night revelers coming out of the local bars! Time to make new memorable moments…bring it on! Show me the taffy!!

Don’t miss out on the fun! You can explore the town with Mike Howard on our Gatlinburg tour.
